1. Vogelbeobachtung, Observacion de aves, Birdwatching
Im Mittelpunkt des heutigen Tags stand eine Wanderung am Nachmittag zusammen mit den Parkwächtern, Alex und Leo, sowie Veronica, Adela und Antonio in den grünen Wald der Ceibos. Die Idee war, eine Menge reifer, süsser Mangos zu sammeln und die mächtigsten Ceibos der Reserva Jorupe zu besuchen.
Am Morgen trafen wir uns am Vogelbeobachtungs-Versteck, um die ersten Vögel aus naher Distanz zu sehen.
El objetivo de hoy fue una caminata por la tarde junto con los guardaparques, Alex y Leo, así como Verónica, Adela y Antonio en el verde bosque de los ceibos. La idea era recoger un montón de mangos maduros y dulces y visitar los ceibos más potentes de la Reserva Jorupe.
Por la mañana nos reunimos en el escondite de observación de aves para ver las primeras aves de cerca.
The focus of today was an afternoon hike together with the park rangers, Alex and Leo, as well as Veronica, Adela and Antonio into the green forest of the ceibos. The idea was to collect a lot of ripe, sweet mangoes and visit the most powerful ceibos of the Reserva Jorupe.
In the morning we met at the bird watching hide to see the first birds from a close distance.

2. Wanderung in der Reserva Jorupe

Am Vormittag erkundeten Maria Ines und Meinolf 2 Stunden lang einen Rund-Wanderweg, der direkt an der Lodge begann und dorthin wieder zurück führte.
Dabei begleiteten uns mit unüberhörbaren krächzenden Lauten mehrere Elstern, namentlich Nacktwangen-Blauraben oder zutreffender Weißschwanz-Blauraben, nach dem die Lodge benannt ist. Diese Elstern hatten wir bereits vor 4 Tagen in Arenillas in der dortigen Reserve beobachtet. Hier waren sie zahlreicher und kamen näher. Weiter liefen wir an mächtigen Ceibos in vollem Blattgrün vorbei und trafen ein Pärchen eines Guayaquiltrogons.
Por la mañana, Maria Ines y Meinolf exploraron durante unas horas una ruta de senderismo circular que empezaba directamente en el albergue y llevaba de vuelta a éste.
Varias urracas nos acompañaron con sus inconfundibles graznidos, a saber, los Urracas Coliblancas, que dan nombre al albergue. Ya habíamos observado estas urracas hace 4 días en Arenillas en la reserva de allí. Aquí eran más numerosos y se acercaban más. Más adelante pasamos por poderosos Ceibos en plena hoja verde y nos encontramos con una pareja de un Trogón Ecuatoriano.
In the morning, Maria Ines and Meinolf explored a circular hiking trail for a few hours, which started directly at the lodge and led back there.
Several magpies accompanied us with unmistakable cawing sounds, namely White-tailed Jays, after which the lodge is named. We had already observed these magpies 4 days ago in Arenillas in the reserve there. Here they were more numerous and came closer. Further on, we walked past mighty ceibos in full leaf green and met a pair of Ecuadorian Trogons.

Wir postierten uns neben die mächtigen Ceibos. Maria Ines entdeckte wunderbare Blüten an verschiedenen Sträuchern, Schnecken auf dem Boden, und wir beobachteten verschiedene Vögel - wie Fliegenfänger, Baumsteiger, Tinamu und Ameisenwürger. An einem Bauerhof passierten wir ein Gehege mit verschiedenfarbigen Hühnern.
Nos apostamos junto a los poderosos ceibos. María Inés descubrió maravillosas flores en diferentes arbustos, caracoles en el suelo, y observamos diferentes pájaros - como papamoscas, trepadores, tinamú y antshrikes. En una granja pasamos por un recinto con gallinas de diferentes colores.
We positioned ourselves next to the mighty ceibos. Maria Ines discovered wonderful flowers on various bushes, snails on the ground, and we observed various birds - like flycatchers, treecreepers, tinamu and antshrikes. At a farm we passed an enclosure with different coloured chickens.

3. Im Garten der Ceibos und Mangos

Am Nachmittag starteten wir zu unserer geplanten Wanderung durch en Wald von Ceibos und Mangos. Unter der Führung von Alex und Leo ging es bergauf in die Reserva. Die Zwillings-Ceibos waren unser erster Treffpunkt, bevor wir die voll hängenden Mangobäume erreichten. Leo und Alex bemühten sich, unsere mitgebrachten Körbe und Taschen soweit als möglich mit Mangos zu füllen. Veronica, Lucas und Antonio wollten die reifestes Früchte von oben pflücken und kletterten dafür in die Mangobäume.
Por la tarde comenzamos nuestra caminata planeada a través del bosque de Ceibos y Mangos. Guiados por Alex y Leo, nos dirigimos cuesta arriba hacia la reserva. Los ceibos gemelos fueron nuestro primer punto de encuentro antes de llegar a los mangos completamente colgados. Leo y Alex se esforzaron por llenar las canastas y bolsas que nos trajeron con mangos en la medida de lo posible. Verónica, Lucas y Antonio querían recoger la fruta más madura de arriba y se subieron a los árboles de mango para conseguirlo.
In the afternoon we started our planned hike through the forest of ceibos and mangos. Led by Alex and Leo, we headed uphill into the reserva. The twin ceibos were our first meeting point before we reached the fully hanging mango trees. Leo and Alex made an effort to fill our brought baskets and bags with mangoes as much as possible. Veronica, Lucas and Antonio wanted to pick the ripest fruit from above and climbed into the mango trees to do so.

Es gab reichlich reife Früchte. Lucas, Veronica, Antonio und Maria Ines holten sie aus dem Baum, Leo und Alex sammelten alle ein.
Había muchas frutas maduras. Lucas, Verónica, Antonio y María Inés los sacaron del árbol, Leo y Alex los recogieron todos.
There were plenty of ripe fruits. Lucas, Veronica, Antonio and Maria Ines took them out of the tree, Leo and Alex collected them all.

Die Parkwächter bemerkten unsere Begeisterung und wollten uns weitere repräsentative Bäume der Reserva präsentieren, so dass wir uns ein gutes Bild von der gesunden Durchmischung der Fläche mit verschiedensten Bäumen machen konnten. Palmen neben Ceibos und weiteren Arten schützen vor der Bodenerosion und stellen die Grundlage für das Leben von Fauna und Flora dar.
Los guardaparques se dieron cuenta de nuestro entusiasmo y quisieron presentarnos más árboles representativos de la Reserva, para que pudiéramos hacernos una idea de la variedad de árboles que hay en la zona. Las palmeras junto a los ceibos y otras especies protegen de la erosión del suelo y son la base de la vida de la fauna y la flora.
The park rangers noticed our enthusiasm and wanted to present us with more representative trees of the Reserva so that we could get a good idea of the healthy mix of diverse trees in the area. Palm trees next to ceibos and other species protect against soil erosion and provide the basis for the life of fauna and flora.

Der mächtigste Vertreter war ein stark gekrümmter Ceibo mit einer aus dem Boden herausragenden Wurzel. Antonio erklomm ihn ohne zu zögern und demonstrierte den Größenunterschied zwischen Mensch und Baum - welch ein Kontrast!
El representante más poderoso era un ceibo fuertemente curvado con una raíz que sobresalía del suelo. Antonio se subió sin dudarlo y demostró la diferencia de tamaño entre el hombre y el árbol, ¡qué contraste!
The mightiest representative was a strongly curved ceibo with a root protruding from the ground. Antonio climbed it without hesitation and demonstrated the difference in size between man and tree - what a contrast!

4. Motten

Zum Abend kehrten wir in die Urraca Lodge zurück. Im Licht der Außenbeleuchtung fanden sich die verschiedensten Motten ein und zeugten von der Aktivität der Natur bei Nacht.
Por la noche regresamos a Urraca Lodge. A la luz de la iluminación exterior se encontraron las más diversas polillas y dieron testimonio de la actividad de la naturaleza en la noche.
We returned to Urraca Lodge for the evening. In the light of the outside illumination, a wide variety of moths were found, testifying to nature's activity at night.
